On 2 August, Prof. LI jiayang, CAS Vice President in charge of biological research, made a visit to South China Botanical Garden (SCBG) in the company of Prof. HUANG Ningsheng, Vice President of Guangzhou Branch, CAS, and Prof. SU Ronghui, Director of Comprehensive Planning Department at the CAS Bureau of Life Sciences and Biotechnology. Prof. HUANG Hongwen, Director of SCBG,  Prof. REN Hai, Prof. ZHOU Guoyi, and Mr. WEI Ping, Deputy Directors of SCBG, warmly received his visit. Prof. Huang first presented a report on introduction of SCBG to Li. Subsequently Prof. Li held talks with the executives and principal scientists of SCBG on such issues as development, system reforms, and scientific research and cooperation. He stressed that SCBG should make good use of self actual conditions and advantages to build a plant resource brand according to national development requirement and scientific development tendency.

After discussion, Prof. Li visited some special gardens in SCBG, including Orchid Garden, Shade Plant Garden, Medicinal Garden, and Magnolia Garden, and then inspected the Central Laboratory, accompanied by SCBG directors and staff members of the laboratory.
