Zeng Songjun Invited to Attend International Orchid Conservation Symposium

Guangxi international orchid conservation symposium was held in Leye county, Baise City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region form 21st to 25th May. Mr. ZENG Songjun, associate professor of South China Botanical Garden (SCBG), was invited to attend the symposium and presented a report on “Orchid conservation and sustainable utilization at the South China Botanical Garden”, which was highly evaluated by the participants.

The attendees of the symposium came from government officials, specialists, experts, and orchid hobbyists of China, United States of America, Great Britain, Israel, Singapore, and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Taipei, China. During the symposium, participants visited the Yangchang Orchids Nature Reserve, the first nature reserve taking orchids as the protection objective in China. Participants also visited the orchid breeding center of the nature reserve supported technologically by SCBG.

Through the symposium, scientific conservation and sustainable utilization of orchid family, international cooperation and exchange, and promotion and development of local economy were consolidated; the international influence of protection for Chinese rare and endangered plants was also expanded.
