International Botanical Expert Delegation Visits SCBG

Date: Sep 22, 2009

On September 16, twelve botanists, from Britain, France, Czech Republic, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and other countries, visited South China Botanical Garden (SCBG). The expert delegation was invited by the Field of Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Utilization of SCBG, and was warmly welcomed by Professor HUANG Hongwen, director of SCBG, and research professor GE Xuejun, and other researchers.

During the visit, Prof. J.S. (Pat) Heslop-Harrison, Editor-in-Chief of journal Annals of Botany, gave a talk entitled "Molecular Cytogenetics and Crop Evolution". Many researchers and graduate students from relative research fields of SCBG attended the seminar, and had a discussion with the delegation on the development trend and some relevant topics in these fields. After the seminar, the delegation visited, in high spirits, the Conservatory-Greenhouses, and other representative special gardens, including cycad, bamboo, magnolia, and Guangzhou oldest village.

Prof. Heslop-Harrison has been the chief editor of "Annals of Botany" since 2005. He is now a professor of Leicester University, United Kingdom, and the president of Society for Experimental Biology.
