Plants are the most important component of global biodiversity and provide basic resources for the survival and development of human populations. In the 21st Century, the world faces serious societal challenges in the areas of food, environment, energy, and health. Plants are a major source of solutions to these challenges. The Plant Science Center’s mission is to improve our understanding of plant diversity formation and maintenance mechanisms. The Center will promote basic and frontier research areas in systematics and taxonomy, evolutionary and developmental biology, and genetic resources conservation and utilization.
